Reach For The Stars
Do I have any teachers out there? Daycare providers? Youth groups? Any other group that could benefit from raising money?
I want to share a program we offered called Reach For the Stars. It's a pledged base program that encourages kids to read, rewards them with new books and puts money in the teachers classroom. It can be done by an individual teacher, grade level or entire school.
It's super easy, lasts 2 weeks and requires little supplies. Each student gets a pledge sheet, which also has their order form on the back.
Here is how it works:
For example...
If you have 20 students and each of them get $100 in pledges that's $2,000. The kids would get 50% of what they personally raised to order books. So you would get $1000 in cash to use for your classrooms. The kids orders would be entered as a book fair ($1000) so you would also then get $500 in free books!
It's a fantastic program! If you are interested in scheduling your Reach For the Stars program contact me to get it scheduled. Dates will fill up fast!

Why
Why blog? I'm not a writer, I'm actually pretty horrible at it. It was my worst area in school and my most difficult subject to teach during my 10 years of teaching. For me this blog will be used to share information about our life, things in love and am passionate about and my business. Hence the Love, Life and Literacy subtitle. As a teacher and mom of two young girls literacy is something I am very passionate about and am working on ideas of how to improve it. Currently I'm working on a post about literacy and facts that I find extremely alarming! So there is a little about my "why."
I'll also be sharing books, activities and other things you can do with your little ones to foster reading and literacy skills.
So if you happen to stumble upon my blog please feel free to follow along or comment when the mood strikes.

Fun In The Snow
Or first full winter here and the temps have been in the negative WAY too many times!! This makes it impossible to enjoy the snow. Thankfully I took the girls sled riding with their cousins yesterday because today we are getting MORE SNOW!! Yuck! Madison went a few times last year but Helen was too little. She LOVED it. She would shout "again" before we stopped at the bottom of the hill. She even went a few times by herself! Madison loved it too.
Hopefully we can go again before the end of winter. IF winter ever ends!!
Help a Homeless Family Find HOPE!
Since moving to Illinois I have been on a mission to find a new church. After numerous visits to churches in neighboring suburbs I found one right here, right down the road from our current home. I was intrigued by what I read on their web page so Madison and I tried it out, we LOVED it. I'll do another post about all the reasons why. For now I'm writing to ask for help. Our church has a few fantastic programs that help low income and homeless families. The one program Bridge Families Program helps get homeless families back on their feet. Currently there isn't room in the budget to fund the program and they are in need of the funds to continue serving the family they currently have in place. Please, if you find it in your heart to give, visit this page here http://www.youcaring.com/help-a-neighbor/bridge-project-helping-homeless-families-find-hope/139677 Feel free to share this link with as many people as possible.

Happy Valentine's Day
I'm not big on Valentine's Day. Never have been. My thought is: if you can't show me you love me every day of the year why show me today? Stan and I get things for each other at random times through the year, not on a certain day just because we are suppose to. Flowers any other day of the year mean more then they do on Valentine's Day.
That being said this year I really wished we would have done something for the girls. I'm not sure where the feeling came from. We show them every day that we love them but I want them to also know they are loved and cherished and special, no matter what. They are both at the ages where they will start to remember traditions and I want them to look back when they are older and have those memories. I have a year to figure it out. It doesn't have to be costly, just meaningful.

Me with my three loves.
